Coping with Brain Injury: Accepting Change

Dr. Huang Wanping is a principal clinical neuropsychologist and Deputy Head of the Department of Psychology at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Currently, she is driving the development of a holistic Cognitive Rehabilitation programme at TTSH Rehabilitation Centre. She had previously worked at the Institute of Mental Health, Singapore, for 9 years. She was awarded the Health Manpower Development Program scholarship by the Ministry of Health (MOH) in 2008 to pursue a postgraduate degree in Clinical Neuropsychology, at Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia. Her doctoral thesis investigated the “Impact of pre-injury factors on neuropsychological outcome in adults with severe traumatic brain injury: A cognitive reserve perspective.” Her interest lies in the area of cognitive profiling and cognitive rehabilitation to optimize neurocognitive functioning across the lifespan.

Cognitive Assessment
The NeuroCognitive Performance Test (NCPT) is a brief, repeatable, modular, online neuropsychological assessment platform designed by Lumos Labs that includes 17 subtests that can be combined into customizable test batteries. NCPT subtests are based on well-known neuropsychological assessments. The NCPT is sensitive to within-individual changes in performance, which makes it a useful outcome measure for studies that follow the traditional pre- and post- test framework.

Uncover answers to any of these questions in a creative project of your choice.
Submission Details
Submissions Due: 30th June 2019
You are invited to submit a piece of creative work of your choosing which demonstrates an understanding of one or more challenges faced by survivors of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), or by the carers, family, and friends of a survivor with a TBI.
Better understand these challenges you are expected to research the topic. You can take a broad view of how a person’s life changes, or focus on one specific challenge and explore it more deeply. You can write a fictional story, submit other creative writings like poetry, or prepare a video, piece of art or even write a song.
Your research may include a variety of sources including blogs, books, support group websites or even interviewing TBI survivors or carers.
